Meet Sadie Sellers, 2024 Liver Life Walk National LIVEr Champion
Sadie Ellen Sellers, born to Ellen and Bakari Sellers in Columbia, South Carolina, faced a challenging start to life when diagnosed with Biliary Atresia. Sadie underwent an emergency surgery, a Kasai Procedure, when she was just three months old. Unfortunately, her health took a critical turn, leading to her placement on the liver transplant list at Duke Children’s Hospital.
Enduring a 93-day wait on the national transplant list, Sadie received a life-saving liver transplant on September 1, 2019, at eight months of age. The transplant marked a turning point, and Sadie has since thrived in her recovery. Grateful for the gift of life from her anonymous donor, she embodies resilience and hope.
Sadie’s mother, Ellen, a National Board Member of the American Liver Foundation, actively engages in fundraising and advocacy efforts to promote liver health awareness. Through their journey, the Sellers family continues to inspire others, emphasizing the importance of organ donation and the strength that can be found in facing adversity head-on with courage and determination.
